Our Lady and Sheen

Ars and the priesthood

As I walked and prayed in Ars, I noticed something amazing.  I met priests who spoke French, English and Spanish (and maybe more that I couldn’t tell).  There were priests wearing black clerical shirts, blue clerical shirts, gray clerical shirts, black slacks, black jeans, blue jeans, “civies” and cassocks; they had open collar and closed collars or no collars.  But each of them, these Priests of God, spoke the words of consecration.  Each of them, spoke the words of absolution.  Each of them will stand before their maker as a Priest of God, and be judged as a Priest of God.  But the pure humility of every priest I saw over the last 24… even 72 hours… even the last month, was amazing.

Please don’t forget to pray for our priests.  St. Thérèse of Lisieux has at least three prayers she wrote regarding priests, St. Jean Marie Vianney is their patron.  Even the holiest of priests need these prayers constantly.  We do not know the state of their souls any more than we know of anyone else’s.  Upon their deaths, while hoping that all go straight to heaven, we know that some will spend time in Purgatory.  So please pray for your priests, living and dead!

Our Lady, Conceived without sin, Mother of all Priests, Pray for them!
