Our Lady and Sheen

Tu es Petrus

“Tu es Petrus!”. The proclamation from our Lord, the strains re-echoing this evening, and for all time! “You are Peter, and upon this rock, I shall build my church!” Five feet from me was this Rock of the faith, small in stature, wise in years, and a power beyond anything I can describe.

This man, this Priest of God, the Bishop of Rome, was incredible to behold. If in human frailities we can be so blessed to see such holiness of charity, then what will it be like when we stand in awe of that perfect holiness that is the beatific vision! How much more enlightened do we need to become to realize that the Lord, truly present in the Eucharist is more humble and holy than the best of us.

But, “tu es Petrus,” and I cannot believe that anyone who saw H.H. Pope Benedict XVI, could remain unmoved. That is why the forces of darkness and evil are turned against him, as the did his predecessor, as they did Christ. But, a man of such charity, loving his neighbor because of an over-abundance of love for God, will turn such sufferings and unite it with the sufferings of the Cross, and in doing so will save many souls from eternal damnation.

Prayer for the Holy Father
(especially to be said after the Holy Rosary)

V. Let us pray for our Pontiff, Pope Benedict.
R. The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him to be blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.

Our Father, Hail Mary

Let us pray.
Almighty and everlasting God, have mercy upon Thy servant, N., our Supreme Pontiff, and direct him, according to Thy loving-kindness, in the way of eternal salvation; that, of thy gift, he may ever desire that which is pleasing unto thee and may accomplish it with all his might. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen (Roman Ritual).

Our Lady, pray for us and the Pope!
Archbishop Sheen, lover of Peter and Mary, pray for us and the Pope!
