Sacramental Saturday pause

Hey folks, computers have failed me this week! So please look for double sacramental Saturday next week!

But, if you can go to a daily Mass this week, I’d appreciate some extra prayers.

Gov. Christie in the news

I usually say that I like Gov. Christie of New Jersey, even though I don’t live near New Jersey any more, and I have never lived in it.  But, I like the idea of a Catholic Politician living the ideals of his faith within the sphere of governance.  Do not get me wrong, I like any politician who puts the natural law first.  Here are some examples of things I found in a search today that make me like Gov. Christie:

American Papist coverage of Gov. Christie’s vetoing Planned Parenthood funds.

popwatch.com (I do not know much about the site, so please view it with adult and parental eyes first) covers Gov. Christie’s comments that Jersey Shore is bad for New Jersey.

I’m not good enough yet on fiscal politics to know if the education battle he is fighting is good or bad.  But I did see the NJEA spokesperson say that the average pay of teachers in NJ is $64,000.  I would like to make that much money, so if people would like to start sending me checks, I’ll gladly accept them!

St. Pantaleon

My handy dandy iPieta on my iPod tells me that  the saint of the day in the traditional calendar is St. Pantaleon, martyr.  It also tells me that there are 4 readings instead of just 1 normally before the gospel.  It’s the first time I’ve found this anomaly, I will have to look up why this is.

St. Pantaleon is one of the 14 Holy Helpers and also shares the privilege of being a Holy Unmercenary along with two of my favorite saints, Cosmas and Damian.  I love when I stumble across cool things. 🙂

P.S. If iPieta needs a spokesman, let me know!

Looking at new laws in Louisiana… and having some fun… I hope?

This article talks about the new legislation in Louisiana. It makes some comments about the Bishops that does not look good.  I’m ok with most of the comments but the last comment I hope I am reading it wrong.  It says “The Catholic bishops had a knee-jerk reaction to a legislative proposal that does not properly concern them.”

The bishops have to make a decision on this because they are in charge of the churches.  The law requires them to make a decision.  So it’s not a “knee-jerk” reaction without proper concern.  It’s been thought about since the legislature brought up the issue.

New Missal Release Date in New Zealand

I just read an interesting release that the Bishops of New Zealand are going to begin using the 3rd Edition of the Roman Missal beginning this Advent, November 28, 2010!  I assume that it is a real release and I thought that it was beautifully worded!

Here it is!

Praying for Catholic Monarchs

NLM has posted a wonderful article regarding the tradition of the King of Spain (His Catholic Majesty, King Juan Carlos) making an offering on the Feast of St. James during the Holy Year of Compostela.  Please check out the article and pictures here!

Also, while we are at it, let us continue to pray for the Catholic Monarchs around the world:

His Catholic Majesty, King Juan Carlos of Spain

His Majesty, King Albert II of the Belgians

His Majesty, Letsie III of Lesotho

His Royal Highness, Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg

His Serene Highness, Albert II, Sovereign Prince of Monaco

His Serene Highness, Hans-Adam II, Prince of Liechtenstein

And with respect to others:

His Imperial and Royal Highness, Karl, deposed Archduke and Prince of Austria and Prince of Hungary

Christ the Eternal King, grant to those whom You place on the earth in positions of power the grace needed to be merciful rulers in Your own image.

And prayers of course for our own government, may God preserve the Republic.
