Our Lady and Sheen

Logo for the Pope’s visit to Scotland

Nine years ago, this month, I had the pleasure of visiting the United Kingdom on an exchange for approximately 3 weeks.  We spent about two weeks in England, and then the group I was with spent the rest of our time in Aberdeen or Edinburgh.  It was perhaps the greatest trip that I have taken, up until my lastest pilgrimage to Europe.  I was very excited to see that the Pope was going to go to Scotland on his first day in the United Kingdom.  He will greet the Queen in Edinburgh, before traveling to Glasgow to celebrate Mass, and then fly to London for the remainder of his trip.

The Logo that the Scottish bishops have commissioned is simple, yet profound.  The cross at the center reminds us that Jesus is the central focus of our life, and indeed the writing surrounding the cross reiterates that “The Hope in which never disappoints is Jesus Christ!”  We must all keep this in mind, even though it is especially directed to the Scotish people!
