Movie Review Monday – Sorcerer’s Apprentice

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice – PG / A-II (Adults and Adolescents)

Let me begin with something I usually don’t notice in movies: I loved the music.  Ok, now that that’s out-of-the-way, I went into this movie worried about the “sorcerer” elements and the occult.  Mostly however, the movie tries to de-mythologize magic as much as Hollywood normally does God.  The plot was good, but predictable, the actors played their parts pretty well, and I left very happy.  There were also some EXTREMELY funny parts, for those of you older than 30 you were definitely not left out.  For the adult mind, this modern fantasy is a great allegory for good vs. evil.  I would recommend this movie for any adults, but I do think that in even teenagers this movie might encourage the throwing of magic “spells” and such, that may lead to a deeper interest in the occult than is healthy.  I give this movie a 3.5/5 rating.  (It’s the best Nicholas Cage movie since National Treasure 1)
