His Holiness Francis and leaders of the different back grounds

I was inspired to see that His Holiness had three private audiences today:

The president of Brazil, immediately after having met with the president of Argentina.  Who could imagine a better example of bridge building.

His Holiness Bartholomew I, Patriarch of Constantinople.  We saw their embrace at the kiss of peace yesturday.

Finally Metropolitan Hilarion from the Moscow Patriarchate.  Which I assume means that he was an official delegate from the Patriarch of Moscow… but I could also be wrong!

O Lord, Let there be Thy Holy Peace on earth.

Pope Francis and Nicodemus

“Nicodemus, one of their members who had come to him earlier, said to them, “Does our law condemn a man before it first hears him and finds out what he is doing?””

Were words from Saturday’s Gospel. How well timed they were, especially for me because of the hurt I had experienced by the rampant attacks against our Holy Father. His Holiness Francis is not a cardinal of the Catholic Church any longer, he is the Bishop of Rome, the Servant of the Servants of God, the Supreme Pontiff of the Church.

We may not always agree with our fellow man, even the Pope, but have respect. Do not yell out “Crucify him” as if somehow the chief priests are better than the God they serve.

Our Lord suffered for all of us, and He I still Christ the King! You may, I believe on certain issues, respectfully disagree with His Vicar on Earth, but until you wear the shoes of the Fisherman.

And, even when our neighbor is supremely happy that we have lost for the time “ermine and lace,” you may not hate him. He is a creature, created by the Lord God Almighty. You were not there at the creation; you were not there with the First Adam; you were not in the tomb of the second Adam on the resurrection day. I am the worst of these sinners, but in my fallen nature I may still call out to those who may also fall. Hopefully I may call out to you and assist you in my less than perfect ways, before I become like the rich man dressed in purple.

May God preserve our Sovereign Pontiff, Francis!

My favorite quote from the First Homily of Pope Francis: Stop thinking you’re better than Christ and the Church

During his Mass for the Church with his Cardinals the new Holy Father had a few really great quotes, for instance: “When one does not profess Jesus Christ, one professes the worldliness of the devil.” Pretty intense stuff.

My favorite quote, I think gets to the heart of the problem that some people have with the “liberal” or “progressive” side of the Church. That being said, I’m sure it could apply to the “conservative” or “traditionalist” side in some manner. Since there is no “liberal” or “conservative” in the Church… only Orthodox and heterodox.

Third [type of movement in the readings], professing: we can walk as much we want, we can build many things, but if we do not confess Jesus Christ, nothing will avail. We will become a pitiful NGO, but not the Church, the Bride of Christ. When one does not walk, one stalls.

We are not just an NGO, a non-governmental organization. We are The Church!

It is necessary to help the poor!
It is necessary to bury the dead!
It is necessary to give drink to the thirsty!
It is necessary to visit the sick!
It is necessary to ransome the captive!
It is necessary to harbour the harbourless!
It is necessary to clothe the naked!

Stop pretending that we have some super insightful work around for the instructions of Christ and his Holy Church. But! Also!

It is necessary to instruct the ignorant!
It is necessary to counsel the doubtful!
It is necessary to admonish the sinners (ourselves, yes, AND others)!
It is necessary to bear wrongs patiently!
It is necessary to forgive offenses willingly!
It is necessary to comfort the afflicted!
It is necessary to pray for the living and the dead!

Stop pretending that we have some super insightful work around for the instructions of Chist and his Holy Church!

His Holiness Pope Francis

I am still recovering from the excitement of yesterday. I want to do everything in my humble power to spread the call for prayer for our new Soveriegn Pontiff.

Here are some ideas:

1. Pray the prayer:
V. Let us pray for our Sovereign Pontiff, Pope Francis.
R. The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.

2. Pray daily for the intentions of the Holy Father: 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, and 1 Glory Be.

3. Pray the Rosary (I debated whether I should remind people).

4. Pray the Franciscan Crown in honor of the name of His Holiness.

5. Pray the Litany of Jesuit Saints.

St. Joseph, patron of the Church, pray for us!

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!

Venerable Fulton Sheen, loyal servant of God and the Pontiffs, pray for us!
